Preserving the Past, Enriching the Future
At the New London Public Museum (NLPM), our diverse collection spans cultures, time periods, and the wonders of the natural world.
From artifacts reaching back thousands of years through to modern day, photos and documents from the mid-1800s to recent events in our collecting region, and natural history specimens, our collection offers a window into the past and a view of the wider world—helping guests discover a connection with our community and an interrelationship with the environment around them.
A Thoughtful Approach to Collecting
To ensure a balanced and meaningful collection, NLPM follows a carefully crafted collections plan, regularly updated to align with our mission. A dedicated team reviews every decision about adding or removing items, striving to avoid bias and maintain the integrity of our museum.
By carefully selecting new items, responsibly deaccessioning inappropriate ones, and fostering partnerships with the museum community, NLPM continues to build a rich, diverse, and impactful collection that serves the New London region and beyond.
